Downtown Batesville provides leisure districts

BATESVILLE, Ark. (KAIT) – The city of Batesville will have an entertainment district. This means that people are walking downtown with alcohol.

This sparked a mixed reaction at Tuesday’s city council meeting, with some saying alcohol will be destructive to the community.

Mainstreet Batesville’s executive director, Mandi Curtwright, says it will help companies grow.

“If someone abuses alcohol, it is at home. The entertainment district will be in a public setting so it will be more of a social gathering, ”Curtwright said.

Mayor Rick Elumbaugh says he visited Mountain Home, which includes a district. They say there have been reports of alcohol-related crimes.

You can drink alcohol from Sunday to Friday from 4:30 p.m. to midnight and on Saturdays from 10 a.m. to midnight.

Drinks must be in a cup in the entertainment district. From there, you can walk from State Street to College Avenue, Central, Broad, 3rd, 4th, Harrison, and Boswell Streets.
