Harper, Phils beat 6 HRs, Wheeler turns Brewers 12-0 | leisure

MILWAUKEE (AP) – Bryce Harper scored an early homerun, Brad Miller scored twice and Jean Segura added a grand slam that led Zack Wheeler and the Philadelphia Phillies to a 12-0 game against the Milwaukee Brewers on Monday.

Andrew McCutchen and Freddy Galvis also hit homered when Philadelphia won for the eighth time in their last 10 games to stay in the playoff chase. The Phillies have beaten NL Central’s leading Brewers five times in a row this year.

Wheeler (12-9) threw six crisp innings, outperforming Brandon Woodruff (9-8) in an All-Star Righties rematch. On May 6 in Philadelphia, Wheeler threw a three-hitter for a 2-0 win over Woodruff, who scored 11 hits in that defeat.

Harper gave the Phillies a quick lead with his 28th homer, a drive with two runs in the first. Galvis scored in the second and Miller homered to lead the fourth.

Philadelphia broke it up with an eighth run out of seven. McCutchen started with his 24th homer, and Ronald Torreyes had an RBI single that followed Brad Boxberger, a helper in need.

Daniel Norris took over and made a throwing mistake that scored a run and Segura cleared the bases with his slam.

Miller made his second home run of the game, finishing ninth on a 61 mph corner from catcher Luke Maile. The six homers were just below the season high the Phillies hit in Cincinnati on June 1.

Wheeler scattered five harmless singles, didn’t go and knocked out nine. He leads the majors with 217 strikeouts, two more than Yankees ace Gerrit Cole.

Woodruff injured himself this time by giving up three home runs in one game for the first time this season. He allowed nine hits, including two singles by Wheeler, a walk and crossed out six.
