Henry Ford Well being Methods medical leaders are calling for extra COVID-19 vaccinations as circumstances rise once more

With hospital admissions for COVID-19 in Michigan up 90 percent in the past two weeks and threatened with further spikes, 56 medical executives from the Henry Ford Health System have urged people to get vaccinated against COVID-19.

In a full-page open letter due to be published in newspapers across the state on Sunday, health care leaders say the “science” about the safety and effectiveness of the vaccines is clear, HFHS said in a press release.

The letter will be signed by doctors, nurses, and health care professionals who hold leadership positions across the health system based in Detroit and its six hospitals, including Henry Ford’s lead clinician, Dr. Adnan Munkarah, Executive Vice President and Chief Clinical Officer.

“The vaccination offers the best protection against COVID-19, including unnecessary surges – like the new Delta variant that is currently widespread in Michigan,” the letter said. “Vaccines are effective in preventing the devastating effects of the disease and stopping it from spreading to our community.”

The message of the letter is also intended to mitigate the spread of misinformation and disinformation about vaccines on social media, the internet and other unreliable sources, the press release said.

According to the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services, only more than 64 percent of Michigan residents ages 16 and older have received at least one dose of the vaccine. Of the state’s 8.6 million residents 12 years and older who are eligible for a vaccine, 59.3 percent are fully vaccinated, the data shows.

Munkarah said the surge in hospital admissions caused by the highly communicable Delta variant of the coronavirus, coupled with the start of a new school year this fall, could lead to another surge in COVID patients, hospitals and healthcare workers charged again.

“Our message is very simple: Vaccines save lives,” Munkarah said in the press release. “We ask those who still hesitate or hesitate to speak to the doctor they trust. Each of us has a personal responsibility to protect not only ourselves, but also our loved ones and our community. We all have an interest in the result from that.” We support the science behind vaccines and are committed to combating dangerous misinformation about them. “

Henry Ford Health System has more than 33,000 employees, including more than 1,600 doctors, more than 6,600 nurses, and 5,000 related health professionals.
