US Open 2021: Salisbury & Ram beat Murray & Soares and win the boys’s doubles title

Salisbury and Ram won their second Grand Slam together after the Australian Open last year

Brit Joe Salisbury said it was “a dream come true” to win the US Open men’s doubles title after beating Jamie Murray and Bruno Soares from behind in New York.

Salisbury, 29, and American partner Ram defeated British Murray and Brazilian Soares 3-6 6-2 6-2.

It is the second Grand Slam title for Salisbury and Ram after winning the Australian Open in 2020.

“Winning that with Rajeev is incredible,” said Salisbury.

“[It’s] a dream becomes true. He was an incredible partner, “he added.” We’re looking forward to hopefully getting a few more titles together. “

Seventh Saplings Murray and Soares broke in the seventh game to win the first set.

But their fourth-placed opponents hit back in the second with a double break to force a decision and held their momentum to claim victory at Flushing Meadows.

London-born Salisbury, who lost the final of the Australian Open 2021 together with Ram, is also among the last four of the mixed doubles with American partner Desirae Krawczyk.

Murray and Soares won both the Australian Open and the US Open together in 2016, but Murray had worked with Briton Neal Skupski in the last two tournaments in New York.

After reuniting with Soares, the couple didn’t have much training time ahead of that Grand Slam after the Brazilian missed the Japan Olympics to have his appendix removed.

“We are really proud of the way we started and fought our way to the final,” said Murray.
